Gastric sleeve surgery is bariatric surgery with the goal of losing weight. It works by reducing the size of your stomach. The word "gastrectomy" means the removal of part or all of the stomach. Gastric sleeve surgery removes about 80% of your stomach, leaving a tubular "tube" about the size and shape of a banana.
